Cleaning & Maintenance

Fuertec builds a tough product, but like everything else it needs maintenance.  Harsh conditions caused by sun, pollution, saltwater, or from construction (chemicals, fine powders, cement), can wear on the finish of the screen and framing. Further damage can occur from using harsh chemicals or cleaning agents. This can cause the finish to fade, however the strength of the screen to withstand intruders will not be compromised.  Follow this guide to care for your Fuertec product.

Fuertec Security Screens are made with high-quality stainless-steel screen and aluminum framing, each with a layer of protective powder coating.  This powder coating is an organic polymer-compound based finish, like what you find in car paints, and requires the same care to maintain its color and shine. What product should you use?

Recommended Harmful
Car wash
Mild soap (terms to look for: scum free, low residue, ph balanced, gentle)  Citrus or Petroleum based cleaners
Soft brush or sponge Abrasives
Microfiber cloth Chlorine
Car wax , high grade non abrasive Vinegar
Pressure washer on lowest pressure settings Ajax
Water Sandpaper
WD-40 Solvents

Steps to take:

  1. Rinse with water and soft brush or sponge to remove debris
  2. Apply mild soap
  3. Rinse off soap
  4. Apply car wax (occasionally)

The product can dry naturally or be wiped down with a microfiber cloth depending on wax instructions.

Locks, handles and mechanisms can be treated with penetrating oil in beach areas every 2 months, inland every 6-12 months, spray form is best because it will get into hard to reach places. Fluid-Film is the best and longest lasting from our experience.

Fuertec recommends covering your screens during construction to protect from welding, cement, dust, paint and other corrosive material that could be present. It is better to avoid damage than to repair it.

WD-40 is a good product to use for removing most unwanted markings and glues.
